Secure Your Family's Future with The Life Legacy by The Life Celebrant Singapore

Writing a will is one of the most important things you will ever do for the people you love. At The Life Legacy — the legacy planning arm of  The Life Celebrant — we offer professional will writing services in Singapore with a genuinely unique perspective: we understand not just the legal side of what happens to you.

A Financial Will is a legally binding document that sets out your instructions for the distribution of your assets, names your chosen executors, and — where relevant — appoints guardians for your children. Without one, your estate is distributed according to the Singapore Intestate Succession Act, which may not reflect your wishes or the specific needs of the people you care about most.

Why Write a Financial Will in Singapore?

Without a valid will, the law decides how your estate is distributed — not you. The Intestate Succession Act sets out a fixed order of inheritance that does not take into account your individual circumstances, your relationships, or your wishes.

This can result in assets going to people you did not intend, or failing to reach the people who need them most. Writing a will whilst you are in good health gives you complete control over these decisions — and gives your family clarity and certainty at the most difficult time of their lives.

Why Write a Will in Singapore? - The Life Legacy by The Life Celebrant

Before writing your will, it helps to take stock of your significant assets, consider who you wish to benefit from your estate, and think about who would be best placed to carry out your final wishes as executor. If you have young children, guardianship is an equally important consideration. Our team will guide you through each of these decisions, one at a time.

Will Writing at The Life Legacy

At The Life Legacy, we approach will writing as a thoughtful, unhurried process — one that deserves care, clarity, and genuine expertise. Our team has a deep understanding of the legal requirements for a valid will in Singapore, as well as the nuances that make each person's situation unique — from CPF nominations and joint assets to trusts and cross-border considerations.

What sets The Life Legacy apart from a standard will writing service is our broader perspective on legacy. Because we work alongside The Life Celebrant, we understand the full picture of what your family will face when you are gone — and we help you plan for it properly. Your will is not just a financial document. It is a statement of who you are and what you value, and we treat it accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions about Will Writing Services in Singapore

  • A will sets out your instructions for the distribution of your assets after you pass. It typically includes a Schedule of Assets covering property, bank accounts, stocks, insurance policies held in your own name, vehicles, and jewellery. It names your beneficiaries — the people or organisations who will receive your assets — along with your chosen executor, who is responsible for carrying out your wishes, and guardians for any children under 21.

It also includes revocation and residuary clauses to ensure your latest will supersedes any previous versions and that all remaining assets are accounted for. One important note: CPF savings are not covered by a will and must be dealt with separately through a CPF nomination. This should not be taken as legal advice — your personal circumstances will always shape the specifics of your will.

  • Several important assets fall outside the scope of a will in Singapore. CPF savings must be handled through a separate CPF nomination — if no nomination is made, CPF savings are transferred to the Public Trustee for distribution under the Intestate Succession Act. Jointly owned property held under joint tenancy passes automatically to the surviving owner and cannot be directed by a will.

Insurance policy proceeds payable to a named beneficiary are also not covered. Trust assets are governed by the terms of the trust, not the will. Understanding which assets are in scope and which are not is one of the most important parts of the will writing process, and our team will walk you through this carefully.

  • If you pass away without a valid will — known as dying intestate — your estate is distributed according to the Intestate Succession Act. This sets out a fixed order of inheritance based on family relationships, regardless of your actual wishes. For example, an unmarried partner receives nothing under intestacy, even if you have lived together for many years. Stepchildren and extended family members may also be excluded.

The process of administering an intestate estate can also be significantly longer and more costly than where a valid will exists. Writing a will is the only way to ensure your assets go to the people you intend.

  • Yes — and you should review your will whenever your circumstances change significantly. Marriage, divorce, the birth of a child, the death of a beneficiary or executor, or a major change in your assets are all common triggers for updating a will. A will can be amended through a formal legal document called a codicil, or by writing an entirely new will that revokes the previous one. Our team can assist with updates and amendments at any point after your initial will is completed.

  • A will does not legally require a lawyer to be valid in Singapore, but professional guidance is strongly recommended to ensure the document is correctly drafted, properly witnessed, and legally sound. At The Life Legacy, we work with experienced professionals to guide you through the entire process — from your initial consultation and asset review through to the finalisation and safekeeping of your will.

Our approach combines professional rigour with the warmth and patience that this deeply personal process deserves. Contact us at +65 6684 8488 or on WhatsApp to arrange a no-obligation consultation.
